JACKSON, Miss. (AP) ? Rock 'n' roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis has married for a seventh time in Mississippi, and the new bride is his cousin's ex-wife.
The Adams County circuit clerk's office said the marriage license shows Lewis was married March 9 to Judith Ann Coghlan Brown in Natchez, Miss. The 76-year-old Lewis, also known as "The Killer," is famous for top hits like "Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On."
The bride, who is in her early 60s, was previously married to one of Lewis' cousins and was close to his daughter, Phoebe Lewis, said the bride's sister, Carolyn Coghlan Gremillion of Madison. She said Brown started working for Lewis several years ago as his caretaker.
Gremillion said the wedding was small. The only guests were Gremillion and her husband, and Lewis' sister and her husband.
"She's real happy," Gremillion told The Associated Press on Friday. "They have a really very loving relationship. I guess she's probably really taken better care of him than anybody."
Gremillion said Lewis had a wild reputation when he was younger, but: "He's a very different man now. You know how people change as they grow older. He's a very spiritual man."
Calls to the Lewis home in Nesbit reached a voice mailbox that was full. Lewis' daughter lives with him.
Judith Brown was previously married to Lewis' cousin Rusty. They divorced in 2010.
Rusty's older sister, Myra Gale Brown, married Lewis in 1957 when she was 13 and was his third wife. That marriage caused shockwaves for Lewis' career.
Lewis' last marriage ended in 2004 when he divorced Kerrie McCarver after 20 years together.
In 2010, Lewis announced a book deal with It Books, an imprint of HarperCollins.
Alberto Rojas, director of publicity for It Books, said Friday that the book deal is still on and that the memoir will be released in 2013.

Past decade's extreme weather is manmade, new study suggests
Extreme rainfall and heatwaves over the past decade have been linked to global warming in a new Nature Climate Change study. The relationship between storms and warming is less clear.
Extreme weather events over the past decade have increased and were "very likely" caused by manmade global warming, a study in the journal Nature Climate Change said on Sunday.
Skip to next paragraphScientists at Germany's Potsdam Institute for Climate Research used physics, statistical analysis and computer simulations to link extreme rainfall and heat waves to global warming. The link between warming and storms was less clear.
"It is very likely that several of the unprecedented extremes of the past decade would not have occurred without anthropogenic global warming," said the study.
The past decade was probably the warmest globally for at least a millennium. Last year was the eleventh hottest on record, the World Meteorological Organisation said on Friday.
Extreme weather events were devastating in their impacts and affected nearly all regions of the globe.
They included severe floods and record hot summers in Europe; a record number of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic in 2005; the hottest Russian summer since 1500 in 2010 and the worst flooding in Pakistan's history.
Last year alone, the United States suffered 14 weather events which caused losses of over $1 billion each.
The high amount of extremes is not normal, the study said.
Even between March 13 and 19 this year, historical heat records were exceeded in more than 1,000 places in North America.
For some types of extreme weather, there are physical reasons why they would increase in a warming climate. For example, if average temperature rises, then so will the number of heat records if all else remains equal, the study said.
Natural weather patterns like El Nino or La Nina can also cause highs in global temperature or increased precipitation which leads to floods.
"Single weather extremes are often related to regional processes, like a blocking high pressure system or natural phenomena like El Nino," said Stefan Rahmstorf, co-author of the study and chair of the institute's earth system analysis department.
"These are complex processes that we are investigating further. But now these processes unfold against the background of climatic warming. That can turn an extreme event into a record-breaking event."
Recent years have seen an exceptionally large number of record-breaking and destructive heatwaves in many parts of the world and research suggests that many or even most of these would not have happened without global warming.
Currently, nearly twice as many record hot days as record cold days are being observed both in the United States and Australia, the length of summer heatwaves in western Europe has almost doubled and the frequency of hot days has almost tripled over the period from 1880 to 2005.
Extremely hot summers are now observed in about 10 percent of the global land area, compared with only about 0.1-0.2 percent for the period 1951 to 1980, the study said.
The link between storms and hurricanes and global warming is less conclusive but at least some of recent rainfall extremes can be attributed to human influences on the climate, it added.

Building lightweight trains
ScienceDaily (Mar. 28, 2012) ? The less trains weigh, the more economical they are to run. A new material capable of withstanding even extreme stresses has now been developed. It is suitable for a variety of applications, not least diesel engine housings on trains -- and it makes these components over 35 percent lighter than their steel and aluminum counterparts.
In their efforts to render cars and trains more economical, manufacturers are trying to find lighter materials to replace those currently used. But there is a problem: Lighter materials tend not to be as tough as steel or aluminum, so they cannot simply be used in place of these metals. Rather, it is a question of manufacturers deciding which components can really afford to have weight shaved off and how to integrate them into the overall systems.
Working together with Bombardier GmbH, KraussMaffei Kunststofftechnik GmbH, Bayer MaterialScience AG, DECS GmbH, the DLR's Institute for Vehicle Concepts, the University of Stuttgart and the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT in Pfinztal have now developed a polyurethane-based sandwich material that is extremely resilient. "To demonstrate the material, we manufactured a component that is subject to significant stresses and which has to fulfill a number of requirements -- the diesel engine housing for a train," says Jan Kuppinger, a scientist at the ICT. This housing is located beneath the passenger compartment, i.e. between the car and the tracks. Not only does it shield the engine against flying stones and protect the environment from any oil that might escape, but in the event of a fire, it also stops the flames from spreading, thus meeting the flame retardant and fire safety standards for railway vehicles. Kuppinger adds: "By using this new material, we can reduce the component's weight by over 35 percent -- and cut costs by 30 percent."
The researchers opted for a sandwich construction to ensure component stability: Glass fiber reinforced polyurethane layers form the outer facings, while the core is made of paper honeycomb. Polyurethane is a bulk plastic combining two substances. Since it can be adapted to fulfill various requirements, it is referred to as a 'customizable material'. In foamed form it is soft, and can be used for example as a material for mattresses; in compact form it is strong and hard. The researchers began by incorporating various additives into their polyurethane, altering it in such a way as to ensure it would meet fire safety standards. Then, the partners optimized the standard manufacturing process, fiber spraying, by developing a mixing chamber which allows even more complex structures to be produced in any required size. The diesel engine housing they made is approximately 4.5 meters long and more than 2 meters wide.
"This is the first time it has proved possible to use this process to manufacture such a large and complex component that also satisfies the structural requirements," states Kuppinger. Previously, one problem encountered with fiber spraying was that it was impossible to determine the precise thickness of the polyurethane top layers. But now the researchers have found a way to do this, using computer tomography to inspect the manufactured layers and then applying a specially-adapted evaluation routine to establish their exact thickness. This information helps to simulate the strength of the component, as well as its ability to withstand stresses.
The scientists produced their diesel engine housing demonstrator as part of the PURtrain project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The demonstrator passed its first strength test -- in which the scientists placed it in a test rig and then applied forces to it at various locations, measuring the extent to which it deformed -- with flying colors. In the next stage, the researchers want to trial the component in a proper field test. If that, too, proves successful, it will then be possible to use the material to make roof segments, side flaps and wind deflectors for the automobile and commercial vehicle industry, and to ramp up the manufacturing process to produce medium volumes of between 250 and 30,000 units.

BERLIN (AP) ? With France's deadly attacks, Islamic terror has apparently struck once more in the heart of Europe ? and authorities say there's a dangerous twist: the emergence of homegrown extremists operating independent of any known networks, making them hard to track and stop.
"We have a different kind of jihadist threat emerging and it's getting stronger," Europol chief Rob Wainwright told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from The Hague. "It is much more decentralized and harder to track."
France's motorcycle gunman traumatized a nation heading into presidential elections and spread fear across the continent that the specter of al-Qaida was once again threatening daily life.
Mohamed Merah, a 23-year-old Frenchman of Algerian descent, sowed his terror over the course of nine days, killing paratroopers, Jewish children and a rabbi. He died Thursday in a shootout after police raided the Toulouse apartment where he had been holed up.
Merah traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan and had claimed to have trained with al-Qaida there, but French authorities said Thursday they had no evidence that he had any contact with terrorist groups or that al-Qaida had ordered the killings.
Wainwright warned that Europe faces a tough challenge ahead.
Combating individuals acting in apparent isolation, he said, will take smarter measures in monitoring the Internet, better intelligence and international cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.
And he conceded there were limits to what law enforcement officials can do. "We can't police the Internet," he said.
Other European terror authorities echoed that view, saying that apprehending suspicious individuals with no clear connections to terrorist networks is legally problematic.
"We have one law for war, one law for peace, but we don't have a law for the current situation," said Alain Chouet, a former intelligence director at France's DGSE spy agency.
"If we stopped (Merah) three weeks ago, what would people have said? 'Why are you stopping him? What did he do?'"
German officials expressed the same frustration in the case of Arid Uka, a Kosovo Albanian who gunned down two American airmen and wounded two others last year at the Frankfurt airport before being captured. Aside from illegally acquiring a handgun, the 22-year-old, who was convicted last month, had committed no crime until he shot his first victim in the back of the head.
"A group preparing an attack with bombs or other instruments is running the danger of being detected," said a high-ranking German intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
"A single person or a group of two, they have a greater chance of not being observed by security forces or getting tracked by police. It is very hard to find individuals like this and stop them from acting."
Some experts believe that al-Qaida's new strategy is, in fact, to stop acting like a network.
Encouraging individuals to carry out terrorist attacks, without organizing them in cells, has become integral to the terrorist organization's modus operandi, said Noman Benotman, a former jihadist with links to al-Qaida and who now works for the London-based Quilliam Foundation.
"They are part of the overall al-Qaida strategy, and they are part of the instructions ? or suggestions, if you will ? for groups and individuals seeking guidance or inspiration," he said.
Benotman, who maintains contact with the jihadist community, said that since the death of Osama bin Laden, al-Qaida's strategy has evolved to include more individual attacks, rather than the heavily choreographed and expensive operations seen in the Sept. 11 attacks or the London suicide bombings in 2005.
The German intelligence official noted that al-Qaida theorist Abu Musab al-Suri published a book about 10 years ago putting forth the strategy of "leaderless resistance." The official said that with Internet propaganda, "you don't need any teacher or some other person any more to push people toward these actions."
Wainwright also sees al-Qaida's hidden influence in the France attacks.
"He was acting in line with al-Qaida inspired tactics, and although it may not have been closely coordinated, it was certainly al-Qaida inspired," he said.
Wainwright said Merah lacked the professionalism of terrorists of the past. He said the gunman seemed divided between wanting to increase his death toll and publicizing his acts by filming his deeds and bragging about them.
"It is very telling that he filmed his exploits," he said. "Still, in spite of the mistakes, he managed to carry out significant damage. ... That is the challenge for us."
A British security official said the key to targeting this brand of individualized terror was figuring out whether people were simply thinking extremist thoughts or would truly turn violent.
"We prefer the term self-starting over lone wolf," the official told the AP on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of his work.
"But the reality is that there are hosts of people like this out there and most of them will never do anything. You have to have information to suggest they are about to do something. Unfortunately, there are no thought police."
There are, nonetheless, plenty of recent examples of the dangers of terrorists working in isolation:
? Maj. Nidal Hasan, a U.S. Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people during the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting rampage in 2009.
? Taimour Abdulwahab, an Iraqi-born Swede, who targeted Christmas shoppers in Stockholm in December and blew himself up.

President Barack Obama said last summer that a "lone wolf" terror attack in the U.S. is more likely than a major coordinated effort like 9/11.
In the case of Merah, it's still too early to know whether he was acting alone or had outside support.
Authorities are trying to determine whether Merah's 29-year-old brother, Abdelkader, was involved, and are searching for accomplices who might have encouraged Merah to kill or furnished the means to do so.
Merah told negotiators he killed to avenge the deaths of Palestinian children and to protest the French army's involvement in Afghanistan as well as France's law against the Islamic face veil.
French authorities have acknowledged that Merah had been under surveillance for years and that his travels to Afghanistan and Pakistan were known to French intelligence, raising the question of whether security services might have been able to act against him before he was able to carry out his attacks.
German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich told German media that there were striking similarities between the Uka and Merah attacks, and that it drives home the need for a "security partnership" between intelligence services and Muslim groups and communities.
"We need them to report the first signs," he said. "We need the help of society."

Acer Iconia Tab A510 preorders start today at $449
Acer this morning announced that the new 10.1-inch ?Iconia Tab A510 (we're all friends here, let's just call it the A510) is now available for preorder for for $449. As you'll recall from our first look at CES back in January, the A510 is packing NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core (OK, its 4-PLUS-1) system on a chip, with the extra fifth core for low-power tasks. It's got a 1280x800 resolution (at a 16:10 aspect ratio), which is looking a bit dated next to its big brother, the A700, to say nothing of the new iPad.

6waves Lolapps Sheds Most Of Its Development Team To Focus on Publishing Games
6waves Lolapps, the social gaming company that was formed out of a merger just half a year ago, shed most of its employees on the development side today to focus on publishing other studios' titles. The decision today seems to undo some of what that merger agreement created last July and we hear it had to do with a limited runway of cash. Last summer, social gaming company Lolapps merged with game publisher 6waves to form a new entity that was a dual producer and publisher. They then raised funding from Korean gaming giant Nexon and Insight Venture Partners. The amount they raised was undisclosed, but an SEC filing showed a $35 million round. The company insists, however, that the merger is still in place and Lolapps is not being spun out. Mass Effect 3 Review | Video Games News, Reviews, Release Dates
This Mass Effect 3 review is coming out a bit late (blame school), so if you?re reading this, you may have already heard about the controversies surrounding it. I know that this was the case for myself, so I went into the game with a healthy dose of trepidation?the Mass Effect games have long been favourites of mine, and I was afraid of seeing them ruined. After spending some time with the game, I can confidently say that, while it isn?t quite the masterpiece I had hoped for, Mass Effect 3 is fun, engaging, and worth a look.
If you?ve never played the series before, Mass Effect 3 is all about the invasion of Earth by the Reapers, a collective of gigantic Lovecraftian machine-gods determined to wipe out and harvest all space-faring sentient life in the Milky Way for their own sinister purposes. You play as Commander Shepard, who has been under house arrest since the events of the previous game for blowing up a Mass Relay (interstellar devices that allow for quick travel between solar systems) and destroying a settled colony of hundreds of thousands of people, all in order to slow down the Reaper advance. The game begins with the Reapers arriving at Earth, forcing Shepard back into service with his old crew in order to unite the various species of the galaxy against the threat.
For the most part, the game presents this adventure phenomenally well. Mass Effect 3 is still a big hammy space opera, and though its tone is often darker than its predecessors, there are several events in the game that are stunning both visually and emotionally, making it hard for players not to get caught up in the war effort. Although the number of recruitable squadmates is down from previous games, that doesn?t seem to be an issue here. If anything, the huge cast of Mass Effect 2 was overwhelming, making it easy to neglect certain people. Conversely, ME3?s characters are incredibly detailed and complex. BioWare did such a good job here that you may find yourself warming up to someone that you disliked in previous titles (i.e. Kaiden, Liara). The only real weak part of the characters are the hit-or-miss romances. Admittedly, a few of them have rather touching moments, but others are weird or just downright awkward.
Every major character from previous games, assuming they are still alive, makes an appearance here in some form or another. More often than not it?s a brief cameo with some dialogue, but some characters are fairly integral to the plot. There are a lot of in-jokes and throwbacks to ME1 and ME2 that are sure to go over newcomers? heads. In fact, contrary to BioWare?s claims, a lot of content is going to be lost on new players. Unless they want to read the entire codex, they?re just going to have to roll with the loads of information that gets thrown at them, though they should still be engaged despite this.
You wind up visiting every major planet over the course of the story, giving you plenty of eye candy to look at. The Citadel, the massive ancient space station that serves as the seat of galactic society and government, plays a large role, making it a far more relevant place to visit. The graphics are mostly fantastic; scenery is breathtaking throughout, and the facial animations for major characters are the best in the series, although the game sometimes skirts the uncanny valley, and most NPCs look alike. The game sounds great, too. Though it was sad to hear that Jack Wall left the project, Clint Mansell, known for his work on Darren Aronofsky?s films, turns in some fantastic pieces. Overall, the game is less synth-heavy, but Faunts makes a return to the soundtrack to make up for it.
In terms of gameplay,?it is a mixed bag, but largely improved. Combat is the finest it has even been, and the streamlined interface is fantastic, making the RPG elements simpler without removing depth of customization entirely. Mass Effect has always felt like it wanted to be more of an action shooter, and it has certainly come into its own in that regard. Aside from the Soldier, which is too plain by comparison, the classes are all inspired and satisfying. For example, the Vanguard plays like a character from a fighting game, body checking opponents from across the level while punching them to death, while the Engineer plays like a space-wizard, shooting balls of fire and lightning at enemies while summoning familiars (Combat Drones) to aid them. Exploring the galaxy has never been so much fun.
Throughout, you can initiate sidequests by receiving them from Admiral Hackett of the Systems Alliance Navy, or by eavesdropping on conversations at the Citadel. These are essentially divided into three categories: N7 missions, which are single-player versions of the multiplayer maps; planet scanning missions; and what I like to call hide-and-seek missions, which require you to find items scattered around normal combat levels. Hide-and-seek are basically fetch quests, and thus the least interesting. Planet scanning is far less tedious than it was in Mass Effect 2, but it?s still largely superfluous making me wonder why BioWare bothered to leave it in. There?s a minigame that occurs if you use your scanners too often in a region where Reapers starts to chase after you, but it?s little more than a harmless distraction. N7 missions are interesting, and it make me wish BioWare hadn?t bothered with the fetch mission and planet scanning nonsense and just made a few more of them. However, as a complete package the gameplay is pretty solid.
This now brings me to the matter of the game?s ending and Day-One DLC (which you can read a review of here). Yes, it?s true, the ending is a bummer and a bit disappointing in context of what has occurred over the course of the game. In fact, if you start to look closer the plotholes become even more obvious, and it?s sad that it doesn?t really take into account the choices made over the course of the game, though that?s not necessarily a new thing. For example, many choices made in earlier games have been overwritten by non-game lore, such as the book that made it so Udina is always the human council member in ME3 despire the player?s personal recommendation. However, I disagree with the sentiment that the ending destroys what has made the game great up until that point. Certainly, I wish the ending was more satisfying given the build up, but I loved playing the game anyways. Regarding the DLC, it?s a bit harder. This isn?t the first time a BioWare game has had Day-One DLC, as they used it for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins as an incentive to buy new, but it?s the first time they?ve charged for it. Having played with the DLC, I can safely say that it?s not necessary to enjoy the main thrust of ME3?s plot, but the added character gives so much depth to the story that it?s hard to imagine why BioWare wouldn?t have just bundled it in.
Worse than the ending and DLC, I felt that the biggest problems is the game?s bugginess. I could forgive the constant pop-in and occasional frame rate stutter, as it?s a huge game, but the constant lock-ups were incredibly frustrating. Thank goodness the save system is fairly forgiving. Furthermore, there were a couple of sidequests that glitched and prevented me from completing them, though I was fortunate enough to not have to experience the already infamous face/stat import bug.
Thank goodness the multiplayer wound up being so good, otherwise these issues might have damned the game. The multiplayer plays out like Gears of War?s Horde Mode, with four players co-operatively defending against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. There are 10 in all, with an 11th that requires players to pull back to a specific location for dust-off. The inclusion of the six different player classes are truly the shining point of the game, making combat fun to play with friends and strangers alike. Equipment can be bought with in-game or real currency in order to acquire new weapons, consumable equipment, and playable species. There are six multiplayer maps in total, the N7 missions found in single-player, and there are three available enemy types to play against: human Cerberus troopers, Reaper forces, or the robotic Geth.

Mass Effect 3 is a great game, albeit a flawed one. It has several memorable moments that outshine anything done in the previous titles (or gaming in general), but is unfortunately blemished by a sloppy ending, some mismanaged DLC, and some game-breaking bugs. Multiplayer is one of the game?s saving graces, though. Although this game isn?t perfect, I?m confident I?ll wind up playing it far longer than I ever played Mass Effect 1 or 2 if only for the multiplayer alone. Be sure to check it out.

Court says no TV cameras at health care arguments
WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Supreme Court rejected requests from news organizations Friday for live, televised coverage of this month's historic arguments on President Barack Obama's health care overhaul but agreed to release audio recordings of the proceedings on the same day.
The court will post audio files and transcripts on its website (http://www.supremecourt.gov ) within two hours of the end of the proceedings on each of the three days set aside for argument, March 26-28.
The C-SPAN cable network said it would play back the arguments on a broadcast channel and on radio as soon as they are available.
The justices have never allowed cameras inside the courtroom and decided not to make an exception for the health care case despite what the court called "extraordinary public interest."
A statement issued by the court's public information office and a letter from Chief Justice John Roberts to C-SPAN did not say anything about cameras or live coverage, even though many news organizations, including The Associated Press, and several members of Congress had asked the court to permit cameras into the courtroom to cover the proceedings.
One of the lawmakers, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., called the decision on expedited audio a step forward but said he was disappointed that Americans will not be able to "witness these public proceedings as they happen."
The decision harks back to Bush v. Gore, the case that sealed George W. Bush's election as president in 2000. That was the first time the justices provided audio of the arguments on the same day after they turned away pleas to air the proceedings live in a case that riveted the nation.
Then, as now, C-SPAN and other organizations told the court they would broadcast the arguments live and in their entirety.
In subsequent years, the court would occasionally authorize same-day release of audio in high-profile cases.
But beginning in October 2010, the justices said they would no longer entertain requests for same-day release of audio of argument sessions. Instead, the court began posting audio files of all arguments on its website on Fridays. They made an allowance for the six hours of health care arguments, the most time set aside for any issue in more than 45 years.
In recent years, argument transcripts have been made available just a few hours later.
Reporters are not allowed to carry recorders or cameras into the courtroom.
